Haiku 163 Month After Month

Month after month
white, brown, black,
mossy green...sigh.
But today! Surprise!

Haiku 162 Gurgling Rushing

Gurgling, rushing
                               in such a hurry...
                                                        to go where?

I went back to get a better picture to go with yesterday's haiku but the patterns were gone.
As I took this picture it was the sounds that were in my head-I should have stopped and jotted down ideas and I should have taken a picture that showed more of the rushing stream. Oh well...

Haiku 161 Spring Thaw

Spring thaw
beauty left behind
takes breath away.

Sorry, this is a highly cropped picture and not the best.
I will try to get back out tomorrow for a better shot.
Tomorrow I won't take Lizzi, she was excepting at stepping on ice
I wanted to photograph so I gave up.

Haiku 160 Ninety-four

Ninety-four
tired of living
breaks a hip
now what?

My brother did share a picture of our mom
but it's not one I want to share.

Not my usual nature theme but it's what's on my mind today.

Haiku 155 A Dog's View-Spring is...

A dog's view-spring is
uncovered deer poop for rolling in-
slushy streams for rinsing.

A perfect spring afternoon-sunny and close to 60 degrees.
It made for a good workout in soft, sometimes slushy, snow at the nearby town park.

Haiku 154 Robins, Pussy Willows

Robins, pussy willows,
streams run muddy, fast and loud.
It is coming! I'm ready.

Haiku 153 Egg Veggies Fruit

Egg, veggies, fruit
snowman plate
eating with the birds.

Haiku 152 Patience Paid Off

Patience paid off
caught someone courting
now I'm in love.

This was such an exciting moment for me. I sit and watch the birds out my window almost every morning as I eat breakfast and write in my journal. The female came and sat in the tree right in front of me so I picked up my camera and started shooting and as I did the male came up to offer her a sunflower seed-something I've never witnessed before. My patience paid off because the theme for the Dogwood Challenge for the week of Valentine's Day was love. I didn't try to force anything and was just waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. This was it!

Haiku 150 & 151 Finches

Two for one picture today. Now I need to work on getting a better picture of these little guys.

Finches looking brighter
despite a dreary morning
feeling more springlike.

Finches hang on tight
as the wind whips the lilac
patiently waiting for seeds.

Haiku 149 First Look Out the Window

(Sorry no picture yet-I enjoyed the view and tried a phone pic-but no good.)

First look out the window
fast action-up, down, in, out
seven jays feasting!

Haiku 146 Moan, Groan, Creak...Repeat

Moan, groan, creak...repeat
trees were talking to each other-
sometimes even singing!

I got out snowshoeing on this lovely winter afternoon.

Haiku 145 Under the Snow

Under the snow
Spring colors are waiting
first up purple and green.

When I woke up this morning this haiku was forming and I knew what picture I wanted. At that point the yard was undisturbed with happy dog prints. While my husband shoveled this morning Lizzi escaped the back yard and she had a blast jumping through the deep snow.

Happy Macro Monday!

This week's Macro Monday theme is jewelry.
The first one is the one I submitted. The second is the runner up.

Haiku 143/365 I See Pansies

I see pansies
in this melty center-
must be time for spring!

Haiku 142 Look Forward

Look forward-
focus on where you want to go-
follow that path.

This is the photo I submitted for the Dogwood Challenge this week with the theme of Mood.

Haiku 141 Rusted and Worn

Rusted and worn
but could still do its job, instead
trees are spray painted.

I don't know about you but when I hike I look for the markers on trees. At this park they've switched to spraying the trees in a messy pattern. I think it's unattractive and honestly I don't connect to their purpose as easily as these markers or even notice the painting as easily. Perhaps I'm trying to block out the ugliness in it.

Haiku 140 Nature's Ornaments

Nature's ornaments
shine brightly as long as they can
Their days are numbered.

Ride For Missing Children-Fundraiser

I finally got my Ride for Missing Children fundraising site up to date for this year. If you'd like to support me you can go to the page to see my photo galleries for winter photos and bird pictures. I'm selling them for $5-$10 plus postage. I'll be adding another gallery or two in the future. You can also read about our family's involvement with this wonderful cause as well.
