One of my favorite things to photograph are plants past their prime. While I did that this morning this fly came along.... It might be the best detailed one I've gotten and it was hand held with a slight breeze.
Today I carved my pumpkin. No kids at home so not much fun anymore but I like to have one out for the trick or treaters tomorrow night. Then I'll give it to my son and he'll take it to a friend's house to feed to his pigs. It did provide me with some time with my macro lens. Here's a few of my shots.
This was taken at a car show this past summer. The kids were having a great time catching and releasing these bull (?) frogs. I loved that the parents watched from a distance and didn't seem to mind that they were getting wet and muddy.
At holiday time I make sugar cookies from a recipe handed down from my Nana. I remember decorating them at her house. My mom made them for every holiday and I remember sitting around the table with my siblings decorating them. Then I made them with my kids and now my daughter makes them for her friends and as a fund raiser. People have asked for the recipe but my kids decided to keep it in the family. So now at Halloween and Christmas I make them and make sure to get some to a couple of good friends since I can't share the recipe. :) Tomorrow's Macro Monday theme is Trick or Treat. I might take some more photos tomorrow but if I don't this will be my submission for the topic.
I had fun one day this summer just shooting this pair of birds, making trip after trip to feed their young. I was happy to see they brought back Japanese beetles they found on our grapes a few times.
My husband brought this guy into me a week or so ago. Today I finally got around to photographing him. Below is how I set up the shot. I should have stepped back further to show the board was balanced on a vase. I wanted the trees outside the window for the backdrop.
This past spring I had the privilege of watching a family of robins outside my workroom window. The nest was started last year and then abandoned. This year they returned and finished it up and started a family. Raising a family of three kept the parents plenty busy once they hatched.
Today's Macro Monday theme was foods that begin with B. In my garden I had the choice of Brussel Sprouts, beets or broccoli. I also made butternut squash soup today and that came from the garden as well. If I had checked I probably have some late berries as well. I wanted to get out and get some more shots today but it was rainy and very busy so I got this one submitted with barely a minute to spare. They are too small to harvest yet. I'm not sure they'll grow much more with much cooler weather coming in this week.
Today's hike with my pup was at the Breia Trails. Love hiking/snowshoeing there. So beautiful and peaceful. I only saw one other group while I was there and it was my daughter's good friend and her family. Such a small world. :) Anyway... even though the mushrooms are getting harder to find due to the leaves that have fallen I found a few and this was like the jackpot with so many in one spot.
Here's a few close ups and a few other ones I saw today.
Today's adventures took my pup and I to 3 parks to enjoy another hot but beautiful fall day in central NY. These two photos are from Green Lakes State Park, my first time visiting here. Easy walk around the lake. I think it will be nice to go back and explore on snowshoes this winter.
I took our pup out for a walk at the town park this afternoon. I took my good camera but it's a bit difficult to take pictures with her tugging on at her leash frequently. It was hot today, 85 degrees, and the leaves are rapidly changing colors! Here's a few other fungi pictures. The ones on the ground are harder to find due to the leaves falling on them.
